Danfoss Climate Solutions has established a dedicated production line in Monterrey, Mexico, to assemble oil-free check valves for North American original equipment manufacturers of commercial chillers and industrial heat pumps.
Industrial Context and Supply Chain Localization
Commercial cooling and heating systems require localized component manufacturing to mitigate supply chain disruptions and reduce component delivery lead times. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) incorporating centrifugal compressor systems face rigorous production schedules to meet growing cooling requirements across data centers, healthcare facilities, and commercial real estate. Danfoss is utilizing its expanded Monterrey facility to assemble oil-free check (OFC) valves in proximity to regional equipment integrators, supporting supply chain resiliency and advancing compliance with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
Technical Characteristics and Component Integration
The OFC valve is engineered for direct pairing with Danfoss Turbocor oil-free centrifugal compressors. The valve assembly combines a ball valve shut-off with a damped non-return mechanism to lower discharge pressure drops across the refrigeration circuit. Maintaining low pressure drop directly correlates with higher overall system capacity and thermodynamic efficiency in chillers and heat pumps.
The design integrates several functional elements into a single body:
- A damped check valve mechanism to prevent reverse flow and protect the compressor during shutdown.
- An integrated stop function and ball valve style isolation to simplify maintenance routines.
- An integrated diffuser elbow to optimize flow dynamics exiting the compressor discharge port.
- An integrated staging port to support system instrumentation and control routines.
The Monterrey facility will assemble 12 valve configurations. These variants cover 3 1/8-inch and 4 1/8-inch connection sizes with steel or solder flange interfaces, offered in standard and compact footprints, with or without integrated ball valves.
Industrial Applications and Energy Efficiency
Eliminating lubricant circulation within refrigeration circuits removes oil fouling from heat exchanger surfaces, optimizing heat transfer rates in commercial HVAC and smart building systems. Primary deployment targets include:

Eliminating lubricant circulation within refrigeration circuits removes oil fouling from heat exchanger surfaces, optimizing heat transfer rates in commercial HVAC and smart building systems. Primary deployment targets include:
- Data center cooling plants requiring continuous process stability and low power usage effectiveness (PUE).
- Large commercial facilities such as hospitals, airports, and office buildings requiring reliable seasonal efficiency.
- Industrial heat pumps deployed to displace fossil-fuel-fired thermal systems.
Integrating the check valve directly onto the compressor discharge reduces potential leak paths, simplifies mechanical packaging for system builders, and stabilizes refrigerant flow during variable-load conditions.
"The launch of OFC valve production in Monterrey is a strategic investment in North America," stated Vikas Anand, vice president of Danfoss Climate Solutions in North America. "Our goal is to become our customers’ preferred technology partner while supporting them in their sustainability goals. We are looking forward to creating greater value for our customers by improving our product delivery and strengthening their supply chains."
