Albis BENEDICT opts for Durethan® to produce efficient and safe photovoltaic switches

The increasing demand for sustainable energy sources for both industry and private households is also fueling growth in the photovoltaic sector.

Albis BENEDICT opts for Durethan® to produce efficient and safe photovoltaic switches

BENEDICT, the Vienna-based switchgear and control gear specialist, has been supplying this sector with innovative technical solutions for many years. For its circuit breakers, the renowned manufacturer has opted for a semi-crystalline plastic solution that meets the high standards of this industry: Durethan® BKV20FN20 from Envalior, a tried and trusted polyamide from the ALBIS portfolio.

Looking back on 90 years of manufacturing experience in switching, starting and control devices, BENEDICT has established itself as a source of high-quality products for the automotive, electrical and construction industries, among others. The company provides the growing photovoltaic sector with specially developed solar disconnectors, which serve as load-break switches in accordance with IEC 60364-7-712, disconnecting the photovoltaic modules from the inverter. Additionally, BENEDICT's portfolio includes power contactors for circuits, which play a crucial role in shielding against reverse feeds and protecting the photovoltaic system from defects.

As the housing material for both products, Durethan® ensures the highest level of safety and performance for the applications. Its UL 94-certified flame retardancy and high heat resistance contribute to the products meeting the quality and safety standards of the industry, including high direct current (DC) switching performance, oxidation resistance, and contact reliability. BENEDICT was also convinced by the plastic’s excellent processability, which further optimizes the compact design of the switch with high surface quality and the option for laser marking on the housing. The selected Durethan® BKV type consists of 20 percent glass fiber and has successfully demonstrated its outstanding technical and mechanical properties in numerous automotive and electrical applications, as well as part of medical devices or in the machinery and plant engineering sector.

“Durethan® is among the proven plastic solutions when it comes to effectively combining demanding safety-related material properties with the individual manufacturing processes of producers – a highly relevant mix for the photovoltaic sector,” says Christoph Lehner, Sales Manager at ALBIS Austria. “We are delighted to support BENEDICT's innovative solutions with a material from our extensive portfolio.”
