Save time and water with Jardana by Elsner Elektronik

Here is an overview of what our new Jardana automatic irrigation system can do and how you can benefit from it.

Save time and water with Jardana by Elsner Elektronik

One's own garden is more important and popular than ever. Whether farm gardens, small artfully designed landscapes, playgrounds or growing one's own vegetables, the trend towards the garden as a living space continues. However, hot summers in recent years have shown that many types of plants need regular watering. But not everyone can or wants to drag a can through the garden or a hose across the lawn every morning and evening. Even the most ambitious gardener faces the problem of plants drying out during a holiday absence. Whether it's a prized tree or a home-grown tomato, just a few days away can wipe out invested money and energy.

This is where our new product Jardana comes in handy: Jardana is the first automatic irrigation controller that can also be integrated into the KNX building bus system. The irrigation control, which won the iF Award 2023, consists of a combination of hardware (valve unit, sensors) and app and thus has a contemporary format for Smart Home applications. A major advantage is that the control also works independently of KNX, as a stand-alone solution.

Jardana thus offers an easy entry into the topic of smart gardening and is at the same time expandable in a future-proof manner. In this way, it can make a sustainable contribution to successful and resource-saving gardening for years to come.

What advantages does Jardana offer?
  • The irrigation control can, but does not have to be integrated into the KNX building system technology.
  • Without KNX integration, you can simply put Jardana into operation via Plug & Play.
  • Simple and convenient programming via app.
  • Jardana generates its own WLAN if required, so that it can also be used in allotments and extensive gardens.
  • Thanks to the optimal automatic watering control, you save water and optimally supply your valuable plants with this precious resource.
How does Jardana work?
Using water in a resource-saving way will become an important issue in the coming years, even in temperate latitudes. Jardana helps to water the garden only when the soil really lacks moisture. By dividing the watering zones, the individual needs of the plants can be optimally taken into account. Cleverly chosen watering periods in the morning or evening hours ensure that the precious water gets into the soil and evaporates as little as possible. With heavy soils, the water is therefore given in portions. Programmed water-free days stimulate root growth.

For which types of irrigation is Jardana suitable?
Jardana is suitable for all types of irrigation, from drip irrigation to lawn sprinklers. The Jardana's four valves allow for different watering zones. Four watering timers with different durations can be set for each zone. This allows watering in the morning and/or evening. In heavy soils, the water can even be given several times a day for better absorption by the soil. Scheduled water-free days stimulate root growth.

What are the advantages of additional earth sensors?
Soil moisture sensors enable even more optimal adaptation of irrigation to the needs of the plants. At the same time, they save water because the watering timer only starts when the soil is dry and ends as soon as the soil is sufficiently moist. This fulfils another important requirement: Sensitivity to precious water resources.

Typically, a sensor is buried in each irrigation zone in the root zone of the plants. The sensor line is connected to the irrigation controller. Observation and trial and error are the best practices to determine the optimal settings for "Dry - water in the next time window" and "Moist enough - stop or pause watering immediately". The duration and degree of soil drying as well as the frequency and amount of watering depend on the planting, soil conditions and location.
