Pfannenberg Unveils ActivCool DTS 5000 Cooling Series

Pfannenberg, Inc. has introduced the ActiveCool™ DTS 5000 Series of enclosure cooling units, designed to deliver reliable performance, simplified installation, and safer, more efficient service across various industrial applications. Building on a proven design, the series features key enhancements in refrigerant technology, airflow, and user interface to protect critical electronics in densely packed control cabinets. The series offers models with optimized cooling capacities of 4,700 and 8,500 BTU/hr to cover a wide range of heat loads. It is equipped with Type 12, 3R, and 4X protection to withstand dusty plant floors, washdown environments, and outdoor infrastructure.

Optimized Airflow and External Service Access
The DTS 5000 Series utilizes a long internal air path that draws hot air from above heat-generating components and delivers cooled air below to help maintain uniform enclosure temperatures. Its compact, side-mount design fits most 12-inch-wide cabinets, and a large evaporator coil supports increased airflow for high-density setups. Critical components are accessible from outside the enclosure, allowing for maintenance without opening an energized cabinet; this avoids time-consuming lockout/tagout procedures and minimizes downtime. Additionally, the units come standard with the environmentally friendlier, A1 nonflammable R513A refrigerant, helping customers meet stringent environmental regulations. The series, which is UL 60335 listed, also offers an LED status indicator or a digital display controller for easy external viewing and adjustment of temperature settings.

Additional Context
This section provides technological and market background not explicitly detailed in the original release.

The transition to low-Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerants is accelerating in the industrial thermal management sector, largely driven by strict environmental mandates such as the AIM Act in the United States and F-Gas regulations in Europe. While many manufacturers are turning to mildly flammable (A2L) refrigerants like R1234yf, Pfannenberg's use of R513A offers a crucial safety advantage, as it maintains an A1 nonflammable classification. This ensures that industrial panel builders and facility managers can achieve environmental compliance without introducing new fire risks to their high-voltage electrical enclosures. Furthermore, allowing maintenance access from the exterior of the enclosure addresses a major operational bottleneck: standard OSHA lockout/tagout (LOTO) protocols typically require shutting down the entire electrical panel for routine cooling unit maintenance, resulting in costly production halts.
