Gateway Enables Heat Pump Integration with BACnet and KNX

HMS has launched a new gateway designed to integrate NIBE air-source and ground-source heat pumps into BACnet and KNX-based building management systems (BMS). The solution provides bidirectional communication, enabling system integrators to monitor operational data, access alarm signals and adjust control parameters within standardized automation environments.

Bidirectional Integration for Mixed Heat Pump Systems
The gateway supports connection of up to five NIBE heat pumps within a single installation and allows access to up to 100 data points. This capacity enables integration of mixed air-source and ground-source configurations within the same project, which is increasingly common in multi-zone residential and light commercial buildings.

By providing structured access to operational parameters and status information, the gateway enables centralized supervision and coordinated control strategies. Such integration supports performance optimization, energy monitoring and fault management through established BACnet or KNX infrastructures.

Preconfigured Templates and Reduced Engineering Effort
Configuration is supported through preconfigured templates available in Intesis MAPS, the company’s commissioning software. Integrators can select the appropriate NIBE heat pump model without manually mapping individual data points.

Automated point mapping reduces engineering time and minimizes configuration errors, which is particularly relevant in projects with multiple heat pumps or accessory components. This approach supports consistent data modeling and faster project commissioning.

Access to Accessory and Extended System Signals
In addition to core heat pump parameters, the gateway exposes dedicated signals for NIBE accessories and extended system components. These include pool heating modules, 4-pipe cooling configurations, photovoltaic system interfaces and multi-climate control functions.

By making accessory-level data available within the building management system, integrators can implement coordinated control sequences and energy optimization strategies across heating, cooling and renewable generation subsystems.

Certification and Building Automation Compliance
The gateway has been developed in collaboration with NIBE and carries UL and BTL certifications. BTL certification confirms compliance with BACnet interoperability requirements, while UL certification addresses electrical safety standards relevant to professional building automation installations.

With this release, Intesis expands its portfolio of brand-specific heat pump gateways, supporting standardized, scalable integration of heat pump systems into BACnet and KNX-based building automation architectures.
