Compact power distribution for constrained installations

Schneider Electric has introduced enhancements to its PowerPact 4 Powerboard portfolio, responding to increasing space constraints in modern electrical installations by combining compact mechanical design with integrated protection and simplified installation features.

Addressing space and installation constraints
Electrical distribution systems in industrial and commercial buildings are increasingly required to fit into smaller plant rooms, risers and service areas. The updated PowerPact 4 ComPacT NSXm Powerboard is designed as a wall-mounted solution with a slimmer and lighter enclosure than previous configurations, while maintaining current ratings of up to 250 A.

A redesigned internal “fishbone” layout with top and bottom cable entry points supports more flexible routing in confined spaces. Removable door and cover handles are intended to simplify access during installation, inspection and maintenance, reducing handling time and improving ergonomics for installers.

Integrated protection and connectivity
The powerboard integrates ComPacT NSXm molded case circuit breakers (MCCBs) equipped with EverLink connection technology, which is designed to maintain stable electrical connections over time and reduce the risk of loose terminations under thermal cycling.

A newly introduced Type 1+2 integral surge protection device is incorporated into the assembly to address transient overvoltage risks. A dedicated viewing window allows visual inspection of surge protection status without removing the enclosure cover, supporting safer maintenance practices and faster condition checks.

Configuration flexibility for metering and protection
The molded case breaker range supports incoming device ratings up to 250 A and is available in multiple configurations, including three-pole, three-pole plus neutral, and four-pole variants. This allows adaptation to different system earthing arrangements and load requirements.

A hinged meter bracket enables the installation of metering for up to eight outgoing devices. By allowing the meter assembly to swing clear, the design facilitates cable installation and termination, particularly in high-density boards where conductor management is critical.

Application relevance
The updated PowerPact 4 Powerboard is intended for industrial and commercial environments where distribution equipment must balance compact dimensions with reliability, protection and maintainability. By focusing on reduced footprint, integrated surge protection and simplified installation features, the solution targets engineers and electrical contractors working in increasingly constrained electrical spaces without compromising established safety and performance requirements.
