Kerlink (AKLK – FR0013156007), a specialist in solutions dedicated to the Internet of Things (IoT), today announced that its LoRaWAN gateways are certified to support the new AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN, a new feature from Amazon Web Services (AWS) for AWS IoT Core that simplifies deployment of LoRaWAN private networks.

Anchored in the AWS IoT Core suite of offerings, AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN includes a LoRa® Network Server and a managed cloud service that let connected devices easily and securely interact with cloud applications and other devices, while processing and routing their messages to AWS endpoints and to other devices. The platform enables applications to keep track of and communicate with all of a network’s devices continuously, even when they aren’t connected.

AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN is a fully managed feature that enables network owners to connect their wireless devices that use low-power, long-range wide-area networks (LoRaWAN) without developing or operating a LoRa Network Server (LNS) themselves. This eliminates the undifferentiated development work and operational burden of setting up and managing an LNS and associated infrastructure. These benefits enable enterprise customers to more easily and quickly connect and secure LoRaWAN device fleets at scale and accelerate IoT application development, in multiple vertical markets.

AWS customers who use AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN can choose network components from the LoRa Alliance’s certified products catalog, including Kerlink’s industrial-grade network products. Three Kerlink references also have been qualified by AWS: the robust, Wirnet iStation outdoor gateway and the Wirnet iFemtoCell and Wirnet iFemtoCell-Evolution indoor gateways.

As a co-founder and board member of the LoRa Alliance®, Kerlink is an IoT pioneer. The company introduced the world’s first commercially available LoRaWAN gateway, the Wirnet Station, in 2014 and helped launch LoRaWAN, a Low Power, Wide Area (LPWA) networking protocol that wirelessly connects battery-operated devices to the Internet in customized networks serving all the major IoT vertical markets.

To give developers and early adopters a complete taste of the powerful combination of AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN and Kerlink’s leading end-to-end hardware and software connectivity solutions, a dedicated LoRaWAN Starter Kit has been specifically designed for this launch, available in 915 MHz (North America) and 868 MHz (EMEA) versions, and in limited quantities on Amazon.com.

The kit will include:

  • An AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN-ready Wirnet iFemtoCell indoor gateway,
  • A WAL-e LoRaWAN end-device including an embedded application sending LoRaWAN frames to the network – like motion sensing and environmental measurements, and
  • Preconfigured access to the Kerlink advanced Gateway Management System (a subset of its Wanesy Management Center -- WMC) to remotely access gateways to handle all kinds of actions, such as configuration, monitoring and updating.

Buyers will benefit from an all-inclusive offer to discover the entire Kerlink connectivity chain in the AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN environment. This will offer a plug-and-play experience that reduces device onboarding friction, accelerates IoT application development and reduces the need to provide technical assistance to internal teams building applications on top.

Customers can register the gateways with AWS IoT Core by providing each gateway’s unique identifier and selecting the LoRa® radio frequency. Security credentials will be provided by the AWS console and can be uploaded to the gateway using Kerlink’s management interface. For registering devices, customers can input device credentials (identifiers and security keys provided by the device vendor) on the console and follow guided defaults for specifying device configuration.

“With AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN, this link up between the LoRa Alliance and AWS delivers to private companies and public bodies a responsive, reliable, and easy-to-manage solution for all the key IoT verticals, from asset monitoring and fleet tracking to smart agriculture, smart cities and smart buildings,” said Yannick Delibie, co-founder and deputy general manager of Kerlink, who serves on the LoRa Alliance board of directors. “The combination of Kerlink’s gateways and market-leading WMC network monitoring & management layers delivers the full experience of deploying and operating robust LoRaWAN connectivity in any type of environment, and a strong complement to the AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN feature.”

"We're delighted to enable developers and early adopters of AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN using Kerlink's LoRaWAN gateways and LoRaWAN starter kit," said Michael MacKenzie, general manager of AWS IoT Connectivity and Control, Amazon Web Services, Inc. "The applications of LoRaWAN are endless and we can't wait to see what problems our customers can solve using these technologies and AWS IoT."
